I had dinner with a client/friend on Friday night and a long-time friend on Saturday night. During a point each evening, I started talking about the changes that have been happening in my life during the past few years. I made a decision to dedicate my life to Christ in 2015, after finding a teaching church that made me feel loved and accepted, not hatefully judged as I had been in the past.
I freely talked about where I see myself in the future, helping companies achieve their goals through strategic visioning, finishing my long-awaited business degree and eventually getting my PhD in Theology. It's a pretty aggressive path since I've only got about 20 hours towards my Bachelor's degree, but I've always set my sights on the impossible.
Personal issues caused me to put my plans on simmer for about 1 1/2 years, my life went miserably dormant in all aspects. Recent changes put me right back on track and I started my classes this week at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. I am determined and focused on the future. I have changed for the better.
Our past does not dictate where our future takes us in life. Change is an important part of life and sometimes it nearly crushes us. But as the old expression goes, "What does not kill us, makes us stronger." I allowed my fear of what other people might think about my decision to follow Jesus, keep me from living my life fully. I allowed their judgement to change the course of my life.
I woke up one day and repented, it was time to take my life back. I started doing the things I love; being with my grandkids and puppies. swimming, cooking, entertaining, painting, going to school, and working with a few select clients. I started letting God lead the way and it's been an amazing few months.
Neither of my friends are religious, so I didn't push my views down their throats. But I did express my love for God and the belief that He is guiding my life, and I'm just along for the ride, wherever He takes me.
Be true to yourself and your religious beliefs, no matter what they may be. Be an example to others by how you lead your life. The world needs great leaders and we can all become one by staying true to our convictions.
