Joy of Life

joyRegardless of the language we speak, the color of our skin or the religion we choose to follow, we all want the same things in life, and none of them cost anything at all. Imagine, something free at this time of the year? After all the excess spending we do at at Christmas, that seems too good to be true.

We want joy in our lives, which includes accepting our circumstances and not blaming others. We want to face both the evil and good in people and love them anyway. We want to be compassionate to everyone, even those we will never meet. We want to help people who are struggling and in need, regardless of our financial conditions. We want to be open to change and different opinions, not just believing our thoughts and fallacies which may be wrong. We need to give thanks for the joy and blessings in our lives every single day.

Each of us have a finite amount of time on earth. We need to start today by sharing our blessings with others. “No one has ever become poor by giving” (Anne Frank), and yet do we truly help people as much as we should all year long or just at Christmas when we are feeling generous?

When was the last time you helped your neighbor shovel the sidewalks? Have you ever tutored a neighbor’s child who is struggling with their math class? How about inviting a new widow over for dinner, reaching out during their grief. Do you have skills that would help people find their way in life? Can you provide financial counseling or spiritual counseling? Or just a shoulder to lean on at times? These things cost nothing, just a little time that you share with them.

Do something to bless someone’s life today. When you reach out to help, the joy is returned to you many times over. For this I am certain. If we all help just one person each day, the world will be a happier place for our kids and grandkids to grow up in.
